Response from Provost about Chief Librarian Search

Yesterday, Jan. 11, 2011, Provost Misak responded to the questions asked about the final process in the selection for the Chief Librarian. Here is an excerpt from her email to the UTFA Librarians Committee which we would like to share with you:

“Searches for the Principals and Deans group (and the Chief Librarian is part of that group) at the University of Toronto are not open or public searches. Rather, they are entrusted to a carefully chosen and representative search committee. We run them this way so that we will get the best candidates possible to apply. As you can imagine, all the people who make our shortlists are very well placed and they tend to feel very strongly about their candidacy being kept in strictest confidence.

I’m very glad that there is so much interest in this important search.”
