SB & P Survey – Why ask about librarian activities?

Another question which has arisen from our members, is why do we need to relay information about our activities in this survey? From the perspective of equity issues, Prof. J. One of the main issues that inevitably arises when dealing with salary equity relates to “productivity.” When we show, for example, that female salaries are $XX,000 below male salaries with equivalent years of experience, we are inevitably confronted with the argument that this must be because female faculty/librarians are not as “productive” as their male counterparts. Hence we need to obtain detailed information on publications, conference activities, awards and so forth, in order to counter that argument. ”
