PDA: Patron Driven Acquisitions and Collection Development

For those who have been concerned about the non-rehiring of subject specialists as they retire at University of Toronto and the advancing theories of those who support the move toward the selective approach of patron driven acquisitions, the blog site, Academic Librarian at Princeton University, says it all, the pros and mostly the cons, the short-sighted approach to collection development and the dangers to a research institution, should the University of Toronto Libraries go down that path (this is nothing new to our folks in collection development, they have been saying this for years) : https://blogs.princeton.edu/librarian/2011/05/pda_and_the_research_library.html
