More on the role of CLA , the Profession of Academic Librarianship and CAUT

The subject as you know has drawn a wide a varied response from colleagues across the country. The consensus from even the most reserved in those participating on the CAUT listserv is that the CLA essentially serves libraries not the profession of academic librarianship. In response, questions have arisen about who does support the profession, apart from institutional associations. Here is one response which we thought we would share with you: “for many academic librarian concerns the best “librarian associations” at this time are CAUT (at the national level), the various confederations of faculty associations (at the provincial level), and your faculty or academic staff association (at the local level).”
