Not so far away…heroic librarians

Our world is a small place but we tend to forget what our colleagues in other regions face on a daily basis. In south Africa in Timbuktu, librarians and ordinary citizens defended their library and collections by standing in front of the gates to the library when rebels came and today have hidden away priceless manuscripts, nearly 20,000, to prevent them being lost in looting and mindless destruction.
