Below is the latest information released in an email to the community from the team working behind the scenes to release Tarek and John:
“We just learned that Tarek and John, accompanied by their lawyers, appeared before the Prosecutor General today. This was in response to the appeal of the last extension of the detention order. The lawyers presented the paperwork asking for their immediate release. We are expecting a statement in response from the Prosecutor General tomorrow. They are both thin and tired from the hunger strike, but well.
The date to appear before the local prosecutor in charge of the case has now been postponed until September 26. (As we suspected it would be.) This will mean that both the Prosecutor General’s decision and some reply from the complaint to the Egyptian Human Rights Organization should be available at that hearing.

In the news, this morning Cecilia did an interview with CBC Radio Halifax and she is scheduled for another on TeleJournal (RadioCanada TV) tonight, and a third on Montreal Breakfast TV tomorrow morning.
A team is working to track down Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Ziad Bahaa-Eldin who is presently visiting Toronto to establish business links. We are seeking to meet him to explain that detaining Canadians traveling through Egypt is hardly a good way to encourage commercial relations with Canadian businesses.
Don’t forget that tomorrow, Tuesday (September 24), we’re holding rallies in Montreal and London, Ontario at 1:00 pm local time. Check the links for details in each city. Please come out and bring all your friends.
Thanks for your continuing help and concern.
